Charity

SOS Children has been working in Tanzania since 1995, first on the island of Zanzibar and then in 2000 at Arusha in the north of Tanzania. There charity works to support orphaned and vulnerable children and their families including those affected or infected by HIV/AIDS.

day 6- maziwe

Today i had my heart set on snorkeling. Abasi said the nearest place was Maziwe Island. It was the most beautiful thing i have ever seen! they were millions of different types of fish. They weren't even afraid of humans. We took a short break and ate lunch and then went back in the water for round 2. It was starting to get late so we headed back to our hotel and went to sleep.

Day 5- Pangani

Today we had a nice mellow day on the town. We woke up in the Mount Kilimanjaro hotel and set of to Pangani. We spent all day there going to shops and restaurants. I bought a small elephant sculpture made out of clay and a bracelet to support children in Tanzania. When we checked into our hotel i thought my legs were going to fall off. IT might have been a mellow day but i learned so much about the culture of Tanzania.

day 4- mount kilimanjaro

Today we got up early, ate breakfast, and went straight to Mount Kilimanjaro. Once we got there is was around lunch time and we stopped to eat and look at the giraffes. Once we were done we ascended up the mountain. When we got to a ledge that we could see from we stopped for a long while. I don't think any of us said a word the whole time. Then we slowly climbed back down the narrow slope and drove back to the hotel.

Day 3- Walking with lion

We had breakfast in the hotel this morning. Abasi said that what we were going to do today was going to be a surprise! I had no idea what it could be. He arrived out side the hotel in his jeep and we sped off. We finally arrived at a place called Pathfinders. we walked in and they showed us to the back door. I peered out and there i saw 2 baby lion cubs! Abasi said, "We are going to walk with them!" in his broken english. The cubs rolled and played as we walked. We got to pet and play with them until our time was up. I had a feeling that was going to be my favorite thing on this whole journey! We headed to the hotel early after our late lunch. We wanted to rest up as much as we could for our long days ahead of us.

Day 2- Uru Waterfalls

Today i woke up really early and ate breakfast at a small restaurant down the road. When i got back my sister was waiting for me in the lobby. She had just landed and was even more excited than me! Soon after that our guide Abasi came. We jumped in his jeep and started off towards Moshi. Finally we arrived at one of the Uru waterfalls after several hours in the car. We ran down the slippery, rock cliff and leaped into the water. Later we ate lunch that Abasi had packed and went to most of the falls before dinner. We checked into our hotel and then headed to a local place fore dinner. It was a nice realxing day and i know tons of excitement are to be had tomorrow.

Day 1- Zanzibar

This morning i got of the plain in Zanzibar, Tanzania. I was so excited that i wanted to begin seeing the town right away but it was about 2:30 here so i rushed to the nearest hotel and booked a room. I tried to sleep but i couldn't. I counted sheep, listened to music, read a book, counted to one hundred, counted back wards from one hundred and much, much more but i was to excited (and jetlaged) to sleep! I hopped out of bed at the break of dawn and went out on the town. I went to a cafe in stone town and had chocolate cake and rich, sweet coffee. I made my way to some shops and then set of to the beach! It was the clearest water i have ever seen! The kayakers looked like they were floating on air! I ran to the water and dove in as fast as i could. I splashed and played and made a fool out of my self. I stayed at the beach al day and then walked to my hotel restaurant for dinner. As i ate i thought of all of the amazing things i would encounter on my 6 days in Tanzania!

Fetching water

Dear friends,
A few days ago my class and I all brought empty water jugs to school. We carried them to a park about a half mile away and filled them up with a water spigot (probably a little different then how you get your water)! My friend and i shared carrying a 5 gallon bucket just like you! It was pretty heavy but the hardest part about it was that all the water was spilling out! When we got back to school we only had 4 1/2 gallons left in our bucket! I can't imagine what it would be like if we had to carry it on our heads! I have so many questions for you all. Do you always go with your friends or do you sometimes go alone? What happens if you spill the water? Do you have to go back? How old were you when you first started? How long does a water container last before it cracks or breaks? The thought of doing what you do at such young ages really amazes me and i wish that i could be that strong and tough!
